Eddie is the cutest and one of the toughest guinea pigs we know. 😊 Eddie has proven this with his long track record.
In late 2022, Eddie started experiencing some weepiness in the left eye and minor dental overgrowths. Despite treatment for the aforementioned issues, he still did not eat. It wasn’t until a later mouth exam that we identified an infection behind the left eye, which was also affecting the hard palate of the mouth!
For Eddie’s long-term outcome, it was decided that he would undergo an eye enucleation and flushing of the hard palate. Everything looked good, and for 8 months, he lived a perfectly normal life, albeit with one eye.
However, the infection reared its ugly head again in June 2023, with discharge pouring out of the left eye socket. We wasted no time and went straight for a CT scan of the head to ensure we had precise details about where the infection had travelled.
As it turns out, Eddie had a molar that was also involved with the infection, acting as a reservoir of bacteria in his body all this time. Ultimately, we removed this infected tooth and performed a tidy-up procedure on his infected eye socket, ensuring that the infection would be gone once and for all!
Eddie’s 1.5-year battle with this infection is a testimony to the dedication of one of our lovely guinea pig owners and, more importantly, to this guinea pig’s amazing resilience and fight! It’s incredible to see such determination from such a small creature. Go Eddie! We are proud of you!” 🎉🐹
